GIVEAWAY TREASURE HUNT
PROOF OF GOOD KARMA WORKING!

PAHA SAPA PRESS SOLVES FREE GIVEAWAY PROBLEM!

AUGUST 12, 2017: for IMMEDIATE RELEASE

With an idea to reward visitors to their website or FB page, the publisher decided to create a contest with the potential of having multiple winners. All submissions to correctly identify lyrics (fragments) of two Bob Dylan songs will receive a free copy of Chinese Proverbs: Illustrated—annotated too!

“The idea came out of a sad circumstance,” said a spokesman. “A recent death reminded someone of a twilight scene in Stirring Li Chao. Upon review of Chapter 13, words contained in two sentences jumped out--certainly reminiscent of Bob Dylan’s lyrics. Too few words to worry about plagiarism issues, nevertheless, it stirred things up. The feeling was that of a tiny curiosity (not necessarily a gem), overlooked before, appearing unexpectedly. That prompted the idea of a mini-contest to see who might notice such a small detail. But our enthusiasm was short lived. Unless people had a copy of the latest revision (July 18, 2017), the clues wouldn’t be there. Then we remembered something . . . about history. It had to do our mission and motto to be . . . “rediscovering history.”

Paha Sapa Press, from the very beginning, wanted to take advantage of Amazon’s “Look Inside” feature. It had helped us assess writing styles and tastes. We optioned to provide a generous sampling of Brandenburg’s writing . . . but would it be enough to uncover the look-alike lyrics? Turns out, the sample was plenty because the items of interest are all located within the first few pages of "Rabbit" (Chapter 13).

“The contest giveaway is something we’d love to do. Making it more of a scavenger hunt adds another layer of . . . something. It’s been fun for us, anyway.”

However many books are distributed, the cost could eventually be recaptured if winners of the giveaways became inspired to purchase the “parent” title (the freebie is an inspired companion to Stirring Li Chao). The duration of the giveaway extends to month’s end.

“We realize the need to get more books in circulation. We’ve got good editorial reviews, but it would help to get reviews from our Amazon readers too.”

Taking a tangential track out of a saddened rut can sometimes lead to a new horizon (and karma takes good note of pure intent). Scattered among the first 3 pages of Chapter 13 are fragments of lyrics Dylan used in a couple different songs: “She Belongs to Me” and “Things Have Changed.” Hint: Lyrics for these songs can be easily accessed online.

Good luck! (And don’t be afraid to ask for further clues.)
